Where Do We Go From Here?
A Gem of a Musical
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? is a lively and tuneful Technicolor musical produced in the 20th-Fox manner. Unfortunately, this transfer is hampered by the fact that it was one of the Fox films produced in Monopack Technicolor rather than 3-strip Technicolor. Monopack Technicolor contained all colors on single emulsion film and was known to be contrasty. Consequently, the modern reproduction of the original image suffers, particularly when it comes to flesh tones. Portions of LASSIE COME HOME, and the entire THUNDERHEAD, SON OF FLICKA and CENTENNIAL SUMMER are two other Fox films produced in the monopack process. Nevertheless, the image is pleasant enough, the sound is good and the DVD is worth owning. Fred MacMurray proves once again his versatility, as comfortable playing hard-boiled in DOUBLE INDEMNITY as he is playing comedy. Add to the mix, Joan Leslie and June Haver and you have a truly fun musical.

Going From 'Here'
'Where Do We Go From Here?' has been missing for years, but this 20th Century Fox film offers a great many plus factors that earn it an unique spot in 40's musicals. One cannot deny the importance of a work that involves the musical talents of Kurt Weill teaming with Ira Gershwin!!! (Yes, I know that Rodgers & Hart's 'They Met in argentina' is a mess, but this one is not). The story, back and forth in time,, doesn't quite work, but the songs take up the rhythm... and Joan Leslie is pert and delightful. June Haver looks and dances well. Fred MacMurray may not seem quite at home as the storyline goes back and forth and then back again. And Gregory Ratoff does not have the light touch for the venture.... Still.... Gershwin-Weill-Leslie-Technicolor-some laughs-dances. Glad it is around.
Love This Movie
This is just a fun movie if you love old movies and a fan of Fred McMurry and June Haver.
