Pogues in Paris: 30th Anniversary Concert
As amazing as you want it to be...
My wife got me the DVD version of this video. We were fortunate enough to see The Pogues here in Austin, TX in 2009, and it was one of the most amazing live music shows ever, pure bliss. So I had high hopes for this video from Paris, and it absolutely did not disappoint. Previous to this, my favorite live video of The Pogues was "Live at the Town and Country" from the 1980's which I had on VHS, but it is not available here in the states on DVD. While I'd still love to have a DVD copy of that performance, I am happy to say that this new concert in Paris really is better. They all look amazing, the musicianship is superb, they are all having a blast playing the stuff, and the big question mark for the band... Shane... is in rare form. Shane really does deliver what you think he no longer can. The camera angles are amazing, video quality is amazing, anything you might want is right here. I am so glad they were able to capture this event. They also add in a lot of the audience craziness...
awesome music
I came of age in the 60's and had a hard time adjusting to punk music until I found Irish punk, and nobody does it better than these guys.
Almost As Good As Being There
Since The Pogues aren't touring the US anytime soon as far as I can tell I bought this recent video of their perfomance in Paris in 2012. I must say they were in rare form. Shane performed here as well as I've seen him do in years. Professionally filmed , good sound quality, and while there are selections from this on YouTUBE for free, I decided I wanted to own this. Since there will be no show in NYC on St Patrick's Day this year I'll play this instead.
