NFL America's Game: 1967 PACKERS (Super Bowl II)

Regular-Season Footage
This is a DVD of a TV show that was broadcast on NFL Network.

It contains the usual in-depth converage of the Ice Bowl and Super Bowl II, but what I enjoyed most is the footage of the regular season of the 1967 Green Bay Packers.

That's what will make this DVD a valuable part of my collection and make me want to watch it again.

My Pal Gus

Great Family Movie!
I love this movie. Saw it for the first time on Turner Classics. Great talent, acting, movie score, story, etc. What I especially loved about this movie was how the relationship between father and son slowly grew into a truly loving one and proved what really matters in life. The last scene is very touching - it's the Dad who finally realizes the true meaning of wealth -- and it is not measured by dollars. When you are forced to choose, it's not as difficult as it may seem. Great movie for family together time. You will not regret buying this one!

A great classic !
Richard Widmark was an under appreciated actor ! This gem of a film reminds us of a better time in America when love counted for more than wealth.

My Pal Gus
It was refreshing to see Richard Widmark's character as a good guy instead of of a bad guy. He has been one of my favorite actors and I like his portrayal in this film.

Dieux Du Stade (Le Making Of Calendar 2013)

Don't even bother buying it.
I bought this through Amazon Marketplace from a store in Canada and I can tell you that it is even worse than the one from last year. They just keep getting worse and worse as the years go by. It has a stupid concept (a boat trip, mostly) and almost all the scenes have all the guys in one group instead of being alone or in small groups as in the good years. And by the way, it is censored. What a waste of money.

The very first Dieux Du Stade Calendar, 2005 and 2006 showed more total body, why did that have to stop

Marx Brothers: Collection

Good but not quite great...
Fans of the Marx Brothers movies have had to wait a long time to finally see their heroes done justice on the DVD format. Image Entertainment released a now out-of-print box set a few years ago with simply awful transfers and no extras. Hopes were raised when Warner Brothers announced that they would be releasing their own box set this year. The good news is that the Warners discs feature excellent transfers of every movie with a solid collection of supplemental material. The bad news is that many of the Marx Brothers most famous and beloved early films, like The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers are not included set. So what exactly does one get with this new box set?

The first film in the set is A Night at the Opera, arguably one of the Marx Brothers best films of their career. It was the first film after they were pushed out of Paramount Studios because of the commercial and critical failure of Duck Soup.

Opera was a huge hit and put the Marx Brothers back on the map. They wisely...

To help clear up some of the confusion ...
As mentioned elsewhere, this collection does not include any of the complete films, but rather tv & misc. other clips. Since I will probably return the item, I haven't yet broken the seal and cannot comment on the quality. However, I should note that the total run-time is approx. 5 hours -- much less than one would assume for a 5-disc set.

If you are looking for more content information, don't bother with Koch Vision Entertainment's site. They are clearly not enthuastic about revealing more details about this release.

The discs are:
#1 "Inside the Marx Brothers" (this is sold separately, as well)
#2 "You Bet Your Life" TV Pilot
#3 "Papa Romani" and "Person-to-Person"
#4 "The Marx Brothers Radio Days" (is this just an audio CD?)
#5 "Marx Brothers Mixed Nuts"

For the price, perhaps it's not all that bad, but there still isn't a good set of their films out there yet.

The amazon.co.uk set DOES contain complete films (four of them, I believe), but the...

So disappointed
The title is VERY misleading

I was expecting a collection of the movies but instead it is comprised of old clips

Don't buy if you are expecting the movies

NFL America's Game: 1986 GIANTS (Super Bowl XXI)

Another season highlight film worth a purchase
NFL Network's production of "America's Game" has a documentary covering the season of each Super Bowl winner. They add a new perspective never before seen in previously released documentaries, from 2 - 3 players and sometimes the head coach. This one is no different, offering some very interesting insight into the Giants' first Super Bowl run. No beeps over cuss words, just pure 100% insight from the men who lived it, in their own words. Definitely worth the purchase, especially if you are a Giants fan!

complete garbage
I was expecting the entire game and got nothing of the sort. They showed about a minutes worth of highlights and that was it. I only wanted this game because a friend of mine snuck on the Giants sideline without even having a ticket to enter the stadium, and I wanted to view him because he is in many shots and even held down the umpires arm and called the first down himself (this is how he got caught). He was also the only civilian to make it onto the field when the Mets beat Boston that same year in the World Series. After Jesse Orosco strikes out the last batter and throws up his glove, you see my friend Kevin run on the field, you cant miss him. He is wearing a blue shirt, and runs out right behind home plate. He also snuck into that game into 2nd row seats and was sitting 2 seats away from the president. I don't understand why a full game cannot be purchased, it doesn't make any sense!

Three Came Home

An Underrated WWII Film Well Worth Your Time
I had never even heard of Three Came Home until I ran across it in a catalog. The description sounded interesting enough to get me to buy it, and I'm glad I did. Three Came Home is a riveting and moving film that grabs the viewer and never lets go. Focusing on what happened to many civilians in the Pacific the film covers a 4 year period from 1941 to 1945, and it shows what kind of hardships and trials many people had to endure in prison camps during the war, primarily focusing on womens camps. Claudette Colbert gives a fantastic performance, and Sessue Hayakawa is outstanding as the Colonel in charge of the prison camps. The script is intelligent and filled with great dialogue, and the acting is first rate throughout. The Alpha DVD is quite good - the print is VERY clean for a "bargain" (public domain) copy, and you should have no concerns as to the quality of this DVD. Highly recommended.

A Classic Comes Home.
One of the best World War Two era dramas ever. The fact that I had never heard of this movie is a testament to it's being under-rated. It's usually not shown in retrospectives of war movies, not enough testosterone displayed, I presume, which is a shame, as it is a powerful take on the "human" side of war, and the effects on the individual. Claudette Colbert, whose only starring role I was familiar with was in "It Happened One Night", is wonderfully touching and noble in this true- story based drama of an author forcefully seperated from her husband and placed, with her little boy, in a Japanese prison camp. As anyone who reads my reviews knows, I like strong womens roles, the good ones of which are few and far between. This is one of the best. Her portrayal is one of pathos, bravery, and perseverence in the face of overwhelming, spirit- breaking odds. This film also offers a rare for that time somewhat sympathetic view of the Japanese, in the role of Sessue...

Real Life Survival Story
Claudette Colbert gives a very strong performance as real life writer Agnes Keith, an American woman living on Borneo with her British husband and son during WWII. When the Japanese invade, she and her son are separated from her husband, Patric Knowles, and all are imprisoned in camps. A Japanese colonel, very well played by Sessue Hayakawa, takes an interest in Colbert since he has read her book, and they have a platonic relationship that is one of the most interesting features of the movie. He has been educated in America, and he reveals more about himself than a typical Japanese soldier would. Three Came Home illustrates the poor conditions of prison camps during WWII and the effect of the war on those who weren't soldiers but had to fight to survive. It's a dramatic story, well acted, and worth viewing.

The Grove

A Provocative Conversation Starter: Debating The Future Of The National AIDS Memorial
While the documentary "The Grove" runs a mere 57 minutes, it presents a surprisingly even-handed and thought provoking look at both sides of a heated argument. That's not always an easy thing to do, especially in such a short running time, so credit must go to filmmaker Andy Abrahams Wilson and his team for being so fair minded. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I knew very little about the Grove, a small section of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco that has been awarded United States memorial status. Unlike the Vietnam Memorial, however, which has become such a Mecca for travelers worldwide, this shrine to the victims of AIDS flies largely under the radar. Originated as a grassroots volunteer movement two decades ago, there is a real difference of opinions about the future status of this unassuming tribute. Those with a large personal investment want the garden-like area to retain its natural vibe and intimacy while others would like this AIDS memorial to achieve real recognition...

Do not go gently
THE GROVE (Prod./Dir./Filmed Andy Abrahams Wilson, 2011, 57 minutes) is one of the most important documentaries of the era. I'm shocked that few people have seen this at all - I'm only the 3rd reviewer. Though it was screened in 2011, the DVD issue carries the date 2012. How sad.

AIDS. How does it feel to read that, to think about it? How about reliving it? What about memorializing all those victims of it? "The Grove" is short for the National AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, established by Jack Porter.

Few people go there and the ones who do visit and meander around are actually hunting for the famous Japanese Tea Garden. Few are interested in this 7-acre garden, affectionately called "the Grove" by those whose lives include it, and the volunteers who maintain it.

Funny how I had just finished seeing a documentary called "DEATH: IT'S A LIVING" that addressed the modern funeral business and questioned its necessity. THE GROVE is...

Take the extra turn thru Golden Gate, and here to see The Grove!
I really loved this amazing film!

My first impression after watching this, was that I found myself wondering, why I had not heard of nor seen this film before?

For those who can read into it, the film is very much a parable of the Grove itself, a hidden treasure, that does not need to exist in any other way,
or be any longer, or feature anything more or less than it did. It makes it's point on so many levels.

The Grove is well worth the extra turn, that I'm glad I took in Golden Gate, and here as well.

Yours in the Struggle, Adam

Lost Realities Of Hog Caller, The

Sick, twisted, and hilarious!
'The Lost Realities of Hog Caller' was totally not what I expected. Before I watched the movie, I assumed it would follow a somewhat formulaic "found footage" storyline, but the plot is full of often hilarious twists and turns and this film definitely doesn't fall into the same category as other movies in the now-familiar found footage genre. It reminded me, at times, of Harmony Korine's cult classic 'Gummo', with its gritty imagery and, cast of bizarre, yet oddly likable characters. Shot in and around Middletown, PA, site of the famous 3 Mile Island nuclear meltdown, the setting has a looming air of menace and griminess which is present throughout the film.

Another thing that surprised me a little was how beautifully 'The Lost Realities' is shot; the cinematography is very impressive. You could take a still from any part of this movie, frame it, and put it on your wall as a piece of unsettling, disturbing artwork. It is full of creepy imagery and has an awesome...

Grave of the Fireflies [Blu-ray]

Transcends Anime to be one of the saddest forms of any media
I generally don't cry at movies. I love any movie that can move me enough to shed a tear or two. Grave Of the Fireflies is not one of those movies. In those movies even though I'm sad the final scenes leave me with a residual hope that while some tragic event has just occured the charecters involved will grow and live better. Grave of the Fireflies doesn't do this. There is no hope or possiabilty of things getting better. This is Life at it's cruelest. Life that will never get better. This movie doesn't move you, it shatters you.

Seita And Setsuko (the boy and His little sister) aren't Heros and their abusive aunt isn't the villian. Neither for that matter is either side of the war protrayed as good or bad in these movie. This is just a story of people being people. some kind, some indiffrent and some compleatly harsh. Seita makes mistakes that many children in his position would.

Although fifteen years old this film is still very beatiful. The images it portrays are quiet and...

Emotionally powerful, hauntingly poetic, anti-war anime
"Grave of the Fireflies" ("Hotaru no haka") is one of the most powerful anti-war films I have ever seen, which means that it has no competition when it comes to emotional impact in terms of animated films. The death of Bambi's mother was a traumatic shock, but nothing like the sense of despair and grief that overwhelms you by the end of this film. The film begins with the spirit of a young boy showing us his death in a train station, after which we follow the fireflies into the past to see his story. At the beginning of the original movie of "Brian's Song" we were told: "All true stories end in death. This is a true story." So is "Grave of the Fireflies" because I have no problem granting the legitimacy of "truth" to fiction.

In the last months of World War II an American fire bomb raid destroys the port city of Kobe, where almost all of the buildings are made of wood. Seita (Tsutomu Tatsumi/J. Robert Spencer) is a 14-year old boy who survives along with his 4-year...

A Powerful And Relevant Anime Classic: A Journey Of True Love And Heartbreak Remastered For A New Generation
Note: It seems a crime that this classic has been off the DVD market. Now this digitally remastered and restored version will be able to reintroduce the film to a new generation.

"Grave of the Fireflies" is a film that I'd heard about for years before I finally got around to viewing it. As one of the most well-respected early anime classics--of course, I expected great things. I knew vaguely what the picture was about and knew that its tone strove for realism as opposed to fantasy. But what I didn't really comprehend is that it would be such a mature story geared toward adult audiences. The sophistication, complicated subject matter, and sorrow contained within "Grave of the Fireflies" made it one of the more surprisingly moving films that I'd seen in quite some time.

The story is simplistic. Set in war-torn Japan near the end of the World War II, two kids must deal with the unexpected death of their mother in a bombing attack. With no one to care for them and...

The best adaptation of the Zane Grey novel I have ever seen. A gritty, realistic drama with terrific acting and dialogue.

Lacks a scene selection on the menu
Been waiting several years for the DVD. Quality is excellent. There is no scene selection on the menu. Fast forward is sketch at best and rewind is nonexistent.

Great Zane Grey Duster
I have all Zane Grey's hardcover novels. This was always a favorite. Deals with the Mormon religion in the early days but doesn't come right out and say it. Ed Harris does a great job of playing the gunfighter out to avenge his sister who was taken by the church.

Time Collectors: Return of the Giants

Could have been an X-Files episode.
The movie could have been an episode of the X-Files with some editing. The movie can be described as mildly dramatic, suspenseful, romantic, and mysterious. The movie also deals with questions about the development of life on Earth from Creationist and Darwinist perspectives. What the aged fossil collector obtains has the potential to call into question some of the established ideas the scientific community at large accepts. There is an example that was not mentioned in the movie but approximates the scenario set by the movie. Recently excavations at a site near Cactus Hill, Virginia produced stone tools that predate Clovis stone tools found at the same site. This gave rise to the controversial Solutrean Hypothesis. The pre-Clovis stone tools bear a strong resemblance to stone tools produced by the Solutrean culture in Europe. This suggests a trans-Atlantic crossing of Solutrean peoples from Europe to North America, during the last Ice Age. The authors of the following book...

Liked the movie and recomended it to our church group of 5. Loaned it to my friends to take home. Only one observation and that is why make things bigger than they are. Truth does not need to be enlarged to make it more appealing. It is beautiful in its own right. enlarging is lying.

To start, I own each of these already on dvd previously before picking up the Blu-Ray. I felt obligated to do so because of some of the additional special features, as well as, seeing each of them look gorgeous on Blu-Ray together. Was I right by picking this up. Absolutely love it all.
I've read quite a few reviewers trying to understand why True Romance is included when Mr. Tarantino only wrote this. Then why not include From Dusk Till Dawn or Natural Born Killers because he wrote those as well. If you read up on a lot of his movies are within the same universe. "John Travolta's Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction is the brother of Michael Madsen's Vic Vega in Reservoir Dogs, Harvey Keitel's Mr. White worked with Alabama from True Romance, the plot basis for Kill Bill is described as the synopsis for a TV series (basically Fox Force Five, right on down to Mia Wallace playing the title role) in Pulp Fiction, etc. Now the epiphany that Eli Roth's character of Donny Donowitz aka "The...

Great Collection, cheap packaging.
This is an amazing set of movies from an amazing filmmaker, and on Blu Ray non the less! I was, however, VERY unimpressed with the quality and design of the packaging. The box that holds all of the disks is quite flimsy. It is easy to bend, and could also rip without too much effort. The disk insert itself is also quite flimsy, and comes out from the BOTTOM of the box, not the side like most other collections. This may be an issue if you plan on keeping this on a shelf. Someone may take this off the shelf and the entire collections of disks will come out from the bottom if you aren't ready to catch them. The inner sleeve comes out with no effort at all. The artwork and graphic design included on the packaging is very awesome which is a plus. Perhaps they had to use such cheap materials to keep the cost low on a 10 disk Blu Ray set? I don't see an excuse for the opening to be on the bottom, though. That is just poor design. I have made a strap to go around the outside of the box to...

Black Magic

Stylish period piece
Orson Wellles was ,in real life ,a noted amateur magician ,and this may account for the relish with which he attacked his role in this 1949 United Artists movie. He is playing another real life character ,the self -styled "Count "Cagliostro ,a man of French Romany origin who learns the arts of hypnotism from Doctor Anton Mesmer (Charles Goldner)and deploys them -along with large doses of charlatanism and showmanship-to attain wealth and power at the court of the French King .His allies are the scheming and devious Viscount De Montagne and Madame DuBarry-played respectively by Stephen Bekassy and Margot Grahame .They plan to substitute the real Dauphine ,Marie Antoinette ,with a double ,Lorenza, and so manipulate the throne to achieve ultimate power .They are assisted by two of Cagliostro's companions from his gypsy days -played with suitable melodramatic menace by Akin Tamiroff and the splendidly sinister Valentina Cortese -and opposed by L;orenza's lover (Frank Lattimore)

This review is for the November 2012 Hen's Tooth DVD release of "Black Magic", and it is aimed at those of you who may opt not to purchase this stunningly produced and photographed black & white gem because of misinformation.

First of all, it is NOT a Region 2 DVD. It is a Region 1 DVD, as clearly stated in the product details section, and it WILL play on ANY US DVD player.

If you've never seen this sumptuous 1949 costume movie and you enjoy this genre you absolutely must acquire it. I have not seen this goody on cable - ever, but I remember a local station in my hometown showing it often many years ago. Maybe there have been some copywright complications that have kept this film from circulation all these many decades, but it' a good thing that it is available once again in a beautifully restored print.

World War III

Dancing on the Abyss
I was ten years old when WORLD WAR III debuted on television. I was lusting for some good ole slam-bang, commie-slaughtering action, and in that regard I wasn't disappointed. This two part TV movie, however, offers a helluva lot more than bloody combat sequences. It's a frightening, really almost terrifying speculative look at how the Cold War might have ended with a red-hot bang.

The story begins sometime in the "near future" (which, since the flick was shot in '82, presumably means the late 1980s), with the Soviet Union being wracked by food riots caused by a U.S. led grain embargo. In response, and without the knowledge of the moderate Soviet leader Secretary Gorny (Brian Keith), KGB boss Gen. Rudenski (Robert Prosky) sends an elite Soviet unit led by Col. Voroshin (Jeroen Krabbe) to a remote part of Alaska.Their mission? To blackmail the U.S. into resuming grain shipments by threatening the Alaskan oil pipeline with destruction.

The fly in the Soviet...

World War III on the Brink
When starving mobs riot in the streets of Moscow and other major cities in Russia, the powers within the Russian government launch a covert mission within the United States. Their goal: Threaten to destroy 30 miles of oil pipeline in Alaska in order to force the American government to restore grain shipments to Russia. As a squad of American National Guardsmen battle Russian Spetznaz commandos at an oil pumping station, the President must try to prevent the conflict from blowing up into World War III. From a lonely battlefield in Alaska to the inner sanctums of world power, World War III delivers a powerful display of drama and action in this Cold War drama.

chilling and unusually poignant
i watched this miniseries as a kid in the 80s and was blown away at the time. Decades later, i found it on Amazon and, still being in possession of a vcr, obtained the tapes and watched it recently. This is one of the greatest miniseries scripts ive ever seen in terms of the constant one-upmanship and escalating tension. A crack team of Soviet paratroopers has covertly invaded Alaska with the goal of seizing an important Alaskan oil pumping station in a KGB scheme to blackmail the us into rescinding its grain embargo. David Soul is the troubled Colonel, exiled to Alaska, who must redeem himself leading a ragtag band of national guardsmen against a superior armed force. He communicates with the President, played with fierce intelligence by Rock Hudson in one of his best roles (compare this engaged, whip-smart leader with the current clowns we have running for president). The superpowers are caught in a world of hellish game theory, where a seemingly logical move results in...

The Dead Inside

Do yourself a favor and watch this.
Travis Betz is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. His knack for witty, well written dialogue and small cast indie film making shine in this film. One of these days somebody is going to give Travis the money and freedom to express his creativity on a larger scale, but for now we a left with gems like The Dead Inside and Lo- his previous foray into demonic fantasy. No one in Hollywood has the balls to even pitch a zombie musical and Mr. Betz pulls it off on what I can only imagine was a shoestring budget. This film is ambitious yet simple in it's storytelling and I guarantee the songs contained within will be stuck in your head for days.

Watch this movie and tell your friends about it!

Absolutely Incredible
Since words often fail...sing it in a song. I am an avid Travis Betz fan. Anything he makes, i love. The Dead Inside filled the hole i needed for a dark, comedic, horror musical. I'm a horror head, but extremely picky. The Dead Inside not only has some of the most catching songs (how catchy? i raced to my computer to download the soundtrack after watching less than twenty minutes), it is also filled with heart, tasty hearts. The filming is also beautiful, each frame is candy for the soul.
The plot is also wonderful, it throws out a twist and i cannot remark any further on that! it just has...exceptional writing, acting and music. In a world were the worst movies possible get huge budgets and promotions left and right... i often feel ill. How can a load of .... get a budget and yet one of the most creative teams, gets almost nothing? and yet make something a thousand times better???
I love love love The Dead Inside. I hope you will give it a chance, because it certainly...

TYPE, READ, DELETE, THINK
Fiona or Fi (Sarah Lassez) is a zombie story author who lives off cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine, and sugar. These are clearly gateways for demonic possession. She lives in a brightly painted apartment which gives the film a surreal setting. "The Dead Inside" is a novel she is writing. The zombies in the film are part of the book. This is not per se, a zombie film.

Wes (Dustin Fasching) is a wedding photographer and her live-in boyfriend. Fiona has writer's block which she cannot overcome.

***MIDPOINT PLOT SPOILER*** We come to find out Fiona is possessed by an "evil" spirit named Emily, who is less dark than Fi. The film deals with the odd relationship she develops with Wes.

The production is interesting as you keep wondering how much is real, imagination, or mental illness and whose. The musical numbers are different, with Sarah being the stronger of the two voices. The music didn't seem to add anything to the story which lacked great entertainment...

Frank Sinatra: The Golden Years

4 Of Frank Sinatra's Greatest Films + 1 Mediocre One
"Golden Era" is kind of a misnomer for this DVD set, as only 3 of the films are truly from Frank Sinatra's golden era: the mid to late 1950's.
However, the 3 films here from that era, "Tender Trap" (1955), "Man With the Golden Arm" (1955), and "Some Came Running" (1958) are all SUPERB!

"The Tender Trap" (Color; 1955) is a delightful comedy, with a screenplay (by Julius J. Epstein) not unlike Neil Simon's future plays, and features great chemistry between Sinatra and co-star Debbie Reynolds (4 1/2 out of 5 stars).

"The Man With the Golden Arm" (In film noir-ish B&W; 1955) is well-known as, perhaps, Sinatra's greatest performance as an actor. He was nominated for an Oscar, but lost to Ernest Borgnine in the "safer" film, "Marty". Directed by Otto Preminger, it is an excellent film about heroin addiction, and was extremely realistic by 1955 standards. It was the FIRST film ever to tackle this subject seriously and it does not demonize the drug user as might be...

All are anamorphic
All are anamorphic. All are in their original CinemaScope ratio of 2.35:1, EXCEPT for The Man With the Golden Arm, which is matted at 1.85:1.

Sinatra the Golden Years. Great set of Sinatra classics.
This is really a great set of Sinatra movies. The Man with the Golden Arm on of his most acclaimed performances. Marriage on the rocks a great comedy with Dean Martin. The Tender Trap is another great and underrated film. If you love Sinatra in the movies you will enjoy this fun collection.

Hostage

A Great Carol Burnett TV Movie!
Carol Burnett stars in this 1988 TV movie as a lonely widow with an unsympathetic daughter (played by Annette Bening.) One day while shopping, Carol is abducted at gunpoint by an escaped convict (played by Carol's real-life daughter, Carrie Hamilton.) Carrie takes Carol to the bank, and forces her to withdraw $1,000.00. Then she makes Carol drive her to New York City. The second half of the movie was really shot in NYC, which adds to the authenticity of the movie. Eventually Carol starts to feel sympathy for the young woman who is holding her hostage.

I HIGHLY recommend this movie to Carol Burnett fans, and to anyone who likes TV movies or Lifetime movies!

InuYasha: The Final Act, Set One [Blu-ray]

After Many Years We Finally See The Outcome Between Inua Yasha And Friends Against Naraku
While we were able to see the Final Act season subbed for the last year it's great to see that Viz Media was able to get most of the original dubbed cast back to do this final season Of these beloved characters, sadly though understandable is the lack of two of the original dubbing cast who won't apparently be coming back Moneca Stori the dubbed voice of Kagome and David Kaye the dubbed voice of Sesshomaru though from the audio clips I've heard from the voice actor and actress replacing them it wont be as horrific as I first thought. This season will follow almost precisely the story we see in the manga script so there shouldn't be many upset fans of the series. While it's annoying that we can only get this set in two parts it doesn't irk me as much as I would expect especially since I've already waited so long for this already to begin with. This is a must for fans especially those of use who already have the first seven season sets but regardless a great finale to a great series...

After 3+ years of waiting
Finally, after waiting for this release since October 3rd of 2009 it is here!

This Blu-ray or DVD set contains 2 discs containing episodes 1-13, both in dual audio (Eng. Dub/Jap. with English subs) - It contains little to no extras. The extras being 3 trailers or promos from the Japanese television airing back in 2009, original English dub cast list and a trailer or two for Viz Media's new anime service; Neon Alley.

I picked up the Blu-ray release and as far as the quality goes it is AMAZING on my flat screen HD TV. The colors practically pop out at you, and are bright and vivid for the most part. Originally The Final Act did not air in HD when it was broadcasting in Japan, so this is an upscaled release I am assuming, and I can't find a single flaw in the quality. This is also Viz Media's first series Blu-ray release, before TFA all they have released in Blu-ray 1080p format is the Bleach/Naruto/Berserk movies in the last year, so it is indeed a job well done on...

Fitting conclusion
Voices
First of all let me say this is the VIZ Media dub. There is another dub available on the web from ANIMAX. Avoid it. The voices are different than the ones you are used to from the earlier discs or viewings on Adult Swim. True, two of the main character voices (for the English dub) did not come back (Kagome and Lord Sesshomaru) but the actors replacing them are very compatible with the characters. The sound is crisp and clear and the sub-titles are good. The Animax dub is an inferior dub in my opinion.

Animation
CGI, but top notch. One of the things that brought me to Inuyasha was the drawing, especially the backgrounds. Beautifully drawn and now beautifully rendered. No complaints about the quality or the transfer to DVD. Looks great to me.

Story
A bit of a let down. NO SPOILERS FROM ME. A let down in that very soon in the last series you see that there is a formula being followed-hint---Everyone gets their episode in the sun...

Psycho Horror Double Feature: Psycho Kickboxer/Canvas Of Blood

"B" movie collector MUST
This movie is by no means EVER going to win an award.....well maybe a crappy movie award. If you like quality movies this is NOT for you....BUT if you are like me and LOVE horrible acting, action, and film making, this is a must!!! I laughed so hard while watching this. Anyone who collects B movies needs to have this. If you like Movies like Troll 2, you must own. If you like movies like The Notebook, you have problems, AND you won't like this.

What the hell?
PSYCHO KICKBOXER: THE DARK ANGEL (1992/1997) - Kickboxer Alex Hunter (Curtis Bush) seemingly has it all: His kickboxing career is taking off, his girlfriend Julia (Stephanie Godfrey) has just accepted his marriage proposal and his father, Chief of Detectives Alan Hunter (George James), is about to put away crime lord Hawthorne (Tom Story) for a long time. Hawthorne's not having any of that (He's so mean, instead of cutting off an underling's pinky finger as a sign of loyalty, he cuts-off the poor schmuck's entire hand!), so he has his thugs kidnap Alex, Alan and Julia as they walk out of a restaurant and brings them to a warehouse, where a tied-up Alex is forced to witness his father getting his head blown-off with a shotgun (a very gory effect) and then watch Julia being gang-raped, followed by having her throat cut. Alex is shot, beaten and left for dead, but he is saved by black wheelchair-bound Vietnam veteran Joshua (Rod Suiter), who nurses Alex back to health and turns him into...

Leading Ladies Collection 2

a great movie is ruined by this new video release
"Rich and Famous" is a fabulous movie that has been utterly damaged by this new video release (with a street date of April 6, 1999). This film was not available on VHS until it was re-released this month. However, when I purchased and viewed this new release, I found that the film had been severely butchered. Two scenes of a sexual nature (in the airplane and in Jacqueline Bisset's hotel suite) have been almost totally cut out and there are several scenes where some offensive bits of dialog have been "bleeped" out. (In other words, you see the character's lips utter the words, but there is a brief silence on the soundtrack.) This video release is actually the edited, cleaned-up version that was shown on Turner Classic Movies cable channel. I am totally surprised that a major company like MGM/UA Video would release an edited version of a film, without stating this fact on the packaging. (I truly believe that this was a mistake on their part. They...

This Video Has Been Butchered (From the Original Version!)
Amazon.com owes it to their customers to print this review. It is not so much a review of the film as this new release of the video. I have been waiting for its re-release for years. There is a very good chance I am the greatest fan of this movie, having viewed it no less than 60 times since it debuted in 1981. I was fortunate enough to buy a $90 copy when it was available briefly in the early 80s. But my copy is wearing thin, and I have been eager to replace it. When I saw this available as of 4/6/99 via Amazon.com, I was ecstatic! I received my new copy 4/7/99! Such service. I raced home after work, got comfortable with my bowl of popcorn, all set to recite lines with Bissett and Bergen, and I was appalled!

The standard "This film has been modified from its orginal version. It has been reformatted to fir your TV." shows up. What it SHOULD say is: "This film has been radically altered from its original version. All adult situations have been cut...

An Old Favorite---Ruined
A travesty that key sections of this movie were cut in the video release. I wanted desperately to replace my well-worn copy. Now will not even consider a purchase of this video. The events that were cut are artfully portrayed and so key to the character played by Bissett that her role may as well have been eliminated entirely. So...I wonder whether Ted Turner's company has had a go at editing the film "Barbarella?"

Dress Gray

An Unsung Gem of a TV Movie
Featuring the young Alec Baldwin at his most compelling, Dress Grey (screenplay by Gore Vidal), is a political murder mystery with a Southern Gothic touch. Fans of "Advise and Consent," "The Best Man," etc. will enjoy the slightly over-the-top military-school machinations of a bunch of fine character actors like Hal Holbrook, Alexis Smith, Lloyd Bridges, Eddie Albert et al, and mystery fans won't be disappointed by the plot, which has plenty of twists and turns and even a couple of truly tense and suspenseful moments. Frank discussion of homosexuality in military school setting my be a turn-off for some (and a turn-on for others, for whom Baldwin and fellow students provide plenty of eye-candy.) Long enough for more than one bowl of popcorn, consistenly interesting, a must-see. Not sure what the diffence is between the slightly different prices and number of tapes listed here, I have viewed the double tape version, buy others at your own risk.

A suspensful miltary thriller set in the 1960's!
This video deals with a miltary school in the 1960's. A cadethas died. The miltary are looking into the matter. Everyone issuspect. Alec Baldwin plays a cadet who gets set up during the trial of his fellow cadet. The movie is fast as the miltary is trying to avoid a media frenzy on the base. This movie also deals with gays and the miltary. There is a slight hint that maybe the cadet was killed by a gay lover. Of course the miltary back then would not like this stuff out to the media. The movie is a very suspenseful thriller in the 1960's! This video features an an all star cast Alec Baldwin(The Hunt For Red Ocober,Mecury Rising),Lane Smith(Superman TV series)Lloyd Bridges(the hot shot movies) and others! look for some up and coming stars in this video as well!

Thank you so much for putting this on DVD, finally.
I saw this on TV back in the 80's and have been looking everywhere for it on DVD. It's a fantastic movie, a mini-series, but so well acted and I think one of Alec Baldwin's best performances, other then maybe Hunt for Red October. A great drama and you don't know who's the killer until the very end. I am so thankful that Amazon has listened to customers and obtained this on DVD. Thank you so much.

Tracy & Hepburn: The Signature Collection (Pat and Mike / Adam's Rib / Woman of the Year / The Spencer Tracy Legacy: A Tribute by Katharine Hepburn)

Three prime examples of Tracy & Hepburn at their best
Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy made nine films together: "Woman of the Year" and "Keeper of the Flame" (1942), "Without Love" (1945), "The Sea of Grass" (1947), "State of the Union" (1948), "Adam's Rib" (1949), "Pat and Mike" (1952), "Desk Set" (1957), and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" (1967). I think the lineup for "The Hepburn & Tracy Signature Collection" would be slightly improved if you substituted "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" for "Pat and Mike," only because you would then have their first and last movies together, but the key moments from their final film are included on "The Spencer Tracy Legacy." "Woman of the Year" and "Adam's Rib" are the two best movies the legendary pair did together and represent their on-screen battles of the sexes at its best. The main common denominator between the three films selected are that the scripts were all at least nominated for Oscars.

It is hard to watch the moment in "Woman of the Year" when Tracy's Sam Craig, a...

"Hepburn...Tracy...Stevens...Cukor ~ Katharine & Spencer (1940 - 1967)"
Warner Home Video present "The Hepburn & Tracy Signature Collection" (Woman of the Year / Pat and Mike / Adam's Rib / The Spencer Tracy Legacy) --- (Dolby digitally remastered)...featuring top performances by actors to die for from the '30s, '40s and '50s with outstanding plot lines and screenplays...from memorable films that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat completely engulfed in the story and every scene...so pop some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the movie.

First up we have "WOMAN OF THE YEAR" (1942) (114 min. B/W)...under director George Stevens, producer Joseph L. Mankiewicz, screenplay by Michael Kanin and Ring Lardner, Jr, original music by Franz Waxman. . . .the cast include Spencer Tracy (Sam Craig), Katharine Hepburn (Tess Harding), Fay Bainter (Ellen Whitcomb), Reginald Owen (Clayton), William Bendix (Pinkie Peters), Dan Tobin (Gerald), Gladys Blake (Flo Peters), Minor Watson (William Harding),Roscoe Karns (Phil Whittaker), William Tannen...

Two of the best actors, three of their best films
It goes without saying that Katharine Hepburn is probably the greatest actress that graced the screen. At least, in my opinion she is.
Spencer Tracy was also a brilliant actor. Without doubt one of the best in history also.

Any fan of one or the other, is most likely a fan of them both, as their 9 terrific films together provide is with one of the greatest Hollywood duos of all time, and truly an affair to remember.

This collection, containing three of their finest films, is a very good buy.

First off, Woman Of The Year, their first film together. Director George Stevens (who had directed Hepburn earlier in Alice Adams), does a masterful job, as do writers Ring Lardner, Jr. and Michael Kanin (from whom Hepburn got the script and went to Louis B. Mayer, head of MGM, and demanded Tracy as her leading man, and Stevens as her director. She had tried and failed to get Tracy once for The Philadelphia Story, having always been a fan, but succeeded in her...

1. In the Shadow of Zekrom
2. Enter Iris and Axew
3. A Sandile Gusher of Change
4. The Battle Club and Tepig's Choice

12. Here Comes the Trubbish Squad

The episodes are on 2 discs with 6 per disc. There are no extras on the discs, which isn't a surprise, since the set is so cheap. It would be nice to have some character profiles or something, but not really a big deal to me. The episodes are done in widescreen and look amazing.

Overall, a nice set for a really good price.

Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton Film Collection

Another excellent Warners Box-Set release
Only one film in this set, IMO, is a classic, and that's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOLF, and it receives a nice two-disc special edition. You can get it separately, and I can't complain too loudly if you go that route. But 2 of the other films, the Haitian-based, Graham-Greene written THE COMEDIANS, and the glossy soap-opera THE VIPS are both very much worth seeing, relics of a long-gone widescreen full-colored, full-bodied era. VIPS has a great credit sequence, and if you like airports like I do, the great cast and highly competent production will make it a winner, although it certainly isn't a 100-best flick of any sort. Same with the COMEDIANS; a great cast and international-intrigue atmosphere, plus good widescreen photography make it one I'll return to, even if it isn't THE THIRD MAN.

That leaves THE SANDPIPERS, which Pauline Kael called a classic; yes, she meant a classic of bad cinema, but a classic of bad cinema is not the same as lousy cinema, and any film...

MISSING LIZ MOVIES ON DVD
The movie BOOM was obviously not included as it is a Universal release, whereas the 4 titles are Warners and MGM[library owned by Warners]. My big gripe is the fact that Elizabeth Taylor's MGM movies from the '50s are still not available on DVD: Beau Brummell, Rhapsody, a decent transfer of The Last Time I Saw Paris, Raintree County, The Girl Who had Everything. These are now owned by Warners, and it's a disgrace that they have never been released on DVD. Hopefully, with the new Liz/Burton collection, someone at Warners is paying attention. A gem in the new collection is THE VIP's - made after Cleopatra and rushed into release before Cleo hit the screens, to capitalise on the red-hot duo, the movie is glossy, all-star fun.

When they were good...they were very, very good....
As a great admirer of Richard Burton's filmwork, I snatched this set up immediately. All the films, save for Vicente Minnelli's "The Sandpiper" held my interest throughout, with "Virginia Woolf" and "The Comedians" (based on the Graham Greene novel) taking top honors.

"The VIPs" was a pleasant surprise as I was completely unfamilar with this Burton/Taylor venture. Supporting cast is excellent with Rod Taylor, Louis Jourdan (as Tayor's lover), and the unmistakably impressive Orson Welles, in a semi-comedic role opposite Elsa Martinelli.

Melodrama to be sure, but done with class, wit, and an engaging storyline that holds one's interest throughout its entire 119 minutes. It is amazing how some actors, like Burton and Taylor can take a relatively bit of fluff from Terrence Rattigan's screenplay, and transform it into something absorbing and grand.

What makes these films work? One would have to argue that the chemistry between Burton and Taylor in so...

The Cisco Kid

Only if you're a CISCO KID completist!
Hey, I bought this because as a collector it was the only CISCO KID sound feature I didn't have in my video library. I like Smits as an actor and a good friend story-boarded the first 25 minutes of the film. As CISCO it just doesn't work for me. Why do film makers insist on reinventing everything?! As a film, the first 25 minutes are good, but that's no reason to recommend this CISCO to anyone. When Laser discs were the way to collect films, I had it. When I got rid of Laser when DVD took over, I always figured it would be released in this format sooner or later. Nope...never happened. So, I acquired a VHS copy from one of Amazon's "partners" and burnt it to DVD for my archives. It was an excellent copy of an ordinary and ultimately disappointing made for TV feature. What can I say. Loved the price and dealer service but can only "sell" the movie to die hard collectors. 'Nuff said.

not too happy
For $20, I was not expecting this to be a DVD copy. The picture quality was too dark. I thought I was buying a NEW Dvd

James Stewart: Signature Collection

The Great Disappointment Collection
After waiting so long to see some of these great films in widescreen DVD, it is a major disappointment to see the quality of the transfers in this collection. As another reviewer has noted, Naked Spur is not good and Cheyenne Social Club looks like the entire film was transferred out of focus. Low bit rate to make two features fit on the (two sided) DVD? Who knows. Hard to believe the source material is marred in this way. I bought the collection; Cheyenne and Firecreek are available on their own as a two-disc set that may or may not be better. I've seen Warner features 30 years older that look much better. Shame on you Time Warner.

Terrific set - but beware
First off, what is with the "reviewers" at amazon. I'm sorry, but this is a DVD section and what do we find? Two "reviews" of films but not the actual DVD set, which neither of these two current "reviewers" have seen. What IS the point?

The set, for me, contains two great films - Anthony Mann's The Naked Spur, and Billy Wilder's The Spirit Of St. Louis. The latter is one of Mr. Wilder's most underappreciated films and I simply don't know why. It's grandly entertaining, has great Wilder dialogue (watch the scene with the young girl who gives him her compact with the mirror), wonderful direction, and Mr. Stewart is terrific. The transfer on Spirit (isn't that what people want to know about???) is excellent - very sharp, the color is accurate most of the time and the sound is great. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of The Naked Spur's transfer. It's not the worst I've seen, but it's close. The colors are okay, but it's clearly out of registration, which makes...

Not Jimmy's Best, but Enjoyable Collection...
No Hollywood star ever 'reinvented' himself as successfully as Jimmy Stewart, from the idealistic, 'Aw, Shucks' boy-next-door of the Golden Age, to the intense, driven loner of the Mann and Hitchcock films of the 50s, to everybody's favorite 'father figure' of the 60s and 70s...this collection, while certainly not his best films of the 1940s-1960s, offers one bonafide 'classic' ("The Naked Spur"), and five other titles definitely worth owning!

"The Stratton Story" (1949) - 6'4" Stewart and 5'1" June Allyson are so 'natural' together in their three films (they also made "The Glenn Miller Story" and "Strategic Air Command"), that you might honestly think they were married in real life! Based on a true story, of baseball pitcher Monty Stratton, who miraculously returned to the game after losing his leg in a hunting accident, it's the chemistry between the stars that makes this film work so well. Stewart has the will to make a comeback, but Allyson provides the 'heart' to make...

Tampa.............Bay!!!!
If your a life long buc fan like I am, this is something you must purchase. It made me tear up lol.

Why stop here
I had DVR'd this off the NFL network and was distressed when a storm erased it. It was a blessing in disguise, because the extra material on here is phenominal ("...like a big glass of...kool aid, that you are sipping...not even using a straw..."). Ive always been a Bucs fan and this video is the next best thing to getting to go for beers with Chuckie and Sapp, both of whom are remarkably engaging and funny on this video.

My advice to you, though, is to skip this and look for the full set at a reasonable price. I got it for $30 and it is the best DVD investment I have ever made. Seeing these proud old warrriors telling the behind the scenes stories, laughing...crying... it is moving and is the essence of why I love this sport.

This was a funny, interesting indie movie. I really enjoyed the quirky dialogue and story line.

I saw this movie, as I really enjoyed the director's other endevour "Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are undead" and found this to be of the same campy, enjoyable calibre.

The casting was great, including Danny Masterson and newcomers like Brooke Nevin. It was all topped off with an unforgetable soundtrack by Sean Lennon.

highly recommend this for some great holiday entertainment.

Slaughter Tales

I love old fashion anthology horror
Slaughter Tales is a very indy release, but it has heart. It's an anthology horror on the lowest budget available. Give it a chance if you like shot on video horror and if you can take a lot of swearing.

Fun SOV Anthology Horror
This no-budget feature from writer-director-star Johnny Dickie begins as we meet a young boy who steals a VHS tape and heads home to uncover the ghoulish delights. A horror fan, he expects this to be the worst horror movie he's ever seen. He might even secretly HOPE this is the worst horror movie he's ever seen.

Before he can pop the tape into his VCR, he is confronted by a ghost that warns him about the tape. After being scared for a second, he pretty much tells the ghost to leave and begins the decent into horror movie badness. What follows is an anthology film unlike any anthology film I've ever seen. Filled with fake trailers, some amusing Grindhouse nods, and some of the strangest horror tales this side of the 80′s...

Slaughter Tales is...umm...interesting. This is the kind of strange SOV style horror that just isn't made today. I admire the passion behind the production from Dickie who does just about everything in this production and it is obvious...

An admirable Shot-On-Video release.
Slaughter Tales isn't going to be a film for everyone, especially those who have little to no knowledge of the SOV horror titles it takes inspiration from. But, the film is a perfect example at how dedication and enthusiasm can overcome limitations caused by a shoestring budget. I can honestly say that with the state that horror is in these days, Johnny Dickie's horror opus offers more originality and a true admiration for the genre that is lacking in the horror films released by major studios these days.

As Close to Perfect a Collection as You Can Get!
If there was ever a collection that deserves the term, ESSENTIAL, the "John Wayne-John Ford Film Collection" is it. While I wish "Rio Grande" had been included (which would have finally offered buyers the entire "Cavalry Trilogy", together), the set has so many remarkable titles that it really sells itself!

The centerpiece is, of course, a new, definitive edition of "The Searchers", Ford and Wayne's finest collaboration. A masterpiece that defined the 'epic' western, it was unbelievably ignored by the Oscars when released (I suspect, as a backlash against Wayne's right-wing support of the Communist 'witch hunts' of the film industry in the fifties). Time has only increased it's luster, and the astonishing, subtle performance by the Duke as a bitter, bigoted ex-Rebel on a five-year quest to kill his 'soiled', Comanche-kidnapped niece.

Besides the best 'remastered' print, ever, the Special Features include commentary by Peter Bogdanovich, two terrific...

The John Ford - John Wayne summit
THE JOHN WAYNE JOHN FORD FILM COLLECTION is the finest DVD boxed set I have bought all year. It has almost nothing but masterpieces--not just great westerns, but great non-westerns like the Merchant Marine drama THE LONG VOYAGE HOME (1940), based on a few Eugene O'Neill one-act plays; and the World War Two PT boat adventure THEY WERE EXPENDABLE (1945), one of the great war films of all time. One watches this set over two weeks and comes away with renewed respect for John Wayne as an outstanding actor, but also downright awe for John Ford as a director. Not the nicest person, but boy could he direct westerns in Monument Valley. And the Ireland of THE QUIET MAN (1952), which is not included in this set--wrong studio.

The set's crown jewel is the 50th anniversary remastering of THE SEARCHERS (1956), which includes not just a shimmering transfer of this dark and tragic masterpiece, but also a rare comic book, publicity material, lobby cards, and an audio commentary by Peter...

Katharine Hepburn: Collection

An odd mix of films, with some great moments
2007 is the centenary of quite a few who touched the movies one way or another:
the poet W.H. Auden, novelists Robert A. Heinlein and Daphne Du Maurier, singers Gene Autry, Kate Smith, and Connee Boswell, bandleader Cab Calloway, film score composer Miklós Rózsa, director Fred Zinnemann, and the actors Dan Duryea, Cesar Romero, Buster Crabbe, Laurence Olivier, John Wayne, Barbara Stanwyck, Fay Wray, Burgess Meredith - and one Katharine Houghton Hepburn of Connecticut.

We have already seen tributes to Wayne, and no doubt Olivier and Stanwyck will also be acknowledged. In honor of Miss Hepburn, Warner has issued a rather odd and quite endearing six-disc boxed set of films not previously available on DVD. They range widely in both chronology and quality, and few would put these particular films at the very top of the Hepburn canon, even the one that won her her first Oscar. But as I watched this motley group of films - two from RKO in the 1930s, three from...

FINALLY
Thank God Warner Bros is on the ball with Katharine Hepburn!

She deserves this and so do her fans.

"Sylvia Scarlett"- panned in 1936 when RKO released it, this gem directed by George Cuckor with Hepburn and Cary Grant about con artists and sexual ambiguity was scandalous at its time, and although the plot is thin in certain parts, as a whole today it's a great movie. Hepburn looks great dressed as "Sylvestor."

"Without Love" - one of the lesser known pairings of Hepburn and Tracy, but still a gem about a loveless marriage of convienance. Lucille Ball plays Hepburn's best friend/realtor.

"Undercurrent" - beautiful cinematography, yet Hepburn never struck me as the "victim." Robert Taylor and Robert Mitchum costar with her in a story about a newly married couple, and Hepburn's worries over her husband's mysterious past and mysterious brother.

"Morning Glory" - "My name is Eva Lovelace, my stage name, you've probably never heard of...

Finally Katie gets one of her own!
Not a moment too soon, the Katharine Hepburn Signature Collection finally arrives on DVD. A brief description of the titles:

Morning Glory (1933)

Eva Lovelace, would-be actress trying to crash the New York stage, is a wildly optimistic chatterbox full of theatrical mannerisms. Her looks, more than her talent, attract the interest of a paternal actor, a philandering producer, and an earnest playwright. Is she destined for stardom or the "casting couch"? Will she fade after the brief blooming of a "morning glory"?

Undercurrent (1946)

Young bride Ann Hamilton soon begins to suspect that her charming husband is really a psychotic who plans to murder her.

Sylvia Scarlett (1935)

Escaping to England from a French embezzlement charge, widower Henry Scarlett is accompanied by daughter Sylvia who, to avoid detection, "disguises" herself as a boy, "Sylvester." They are joined by amiable con man Jimmy Monkley, then, after a brief...

It Happens Every Spring

Absent Minded Pitcher
Any fan of classic comedy movies like the "Absent-Minded Professor" will enjoy this movie. The original "Angels in the Outfield" was a classic that lead to a remake. Surprisingly they haven't remade this one, it is a great movie too. Good cast, story, and direction make this fun for the whole family. When a professor comes up with a material from his lab that causes a baseball to avoid wood bats the results are hysterical.

Ray Miland, and the rest the cast give good performances. Ray Milland typically did serious roles like his award winning "Lost Weekend", but he does a fine job in this slightly zany comedy. I am sorry to see this is out of print and the scalpers here want your first born to buy it. We can only hope the studio puts this out on DVD soon. Until then I will keep a sharp eye out for it being televised. Great movie or not I'm not paying thirty-five plus dollars for a VHS tape.

PLAY BALL...!!
Even if you're not a big baseball fan, this good-natured comedy should still grab you. Ray Milland stars as a mild-mannered, but all-American college professor who has a secret passion for baseball, and gets a little nutty every Spring, when the season starts up. His twin passions -- baseball and chemistry -- collide when he accidentally invents a substance that repels wood... just the thing to use if you want to become a major-league pitching star overnight, and rake in the big bucks when every hitter you come up against gets dusted when you use the super goo.

What's weird about this Truman-era film is that Milland is never confronted as being a fraud or a cheat, even though he's obviously behaving unethically and taking unfair advantage of friends and foes alike. He's worried about getting caught by his fiancee (the reason he's trying to raise the money is so he can settle down with her), but when he becomes a national sensation, everybody jumps on the bandwagon and...

HILARIOUS BASEBALL COMEDY.
Ray Milland was a rather underrated actor who was equally adept at comedies as he was in dramas. Here, Milland shines as a professional scientist-turned-baseball-wizard in a side-spitting comedy that has since become a minor classic. Valentine Davies, who wrote the marvelous script for MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, came up with another winner here. Ray is a mild-mannered chemistry professor in love with the lovely Jean Peters. Milland's meager salary won't suffice in supporting her however, and he keeps putting off marriage. While developing a bug repellant for trees, he invents a solution that repels any kind of wood it comes in contact with. Being an avid baseball fan, Milland concocts a clever scheme to earn additional money...There are many hilarious moments in this little gem, such as Paul Douglas mistaking the solution for hair tonic - his hair does the St. Vitus dance when he uses a wooden brush to comb it! The hilarious scenes in the baseball fields are terrific because the...
